My
understanding of a hero was someone that can be looked upon as a role model and
a person who is respected for all their great doings. Of course, as I child
when I heard the word hero I immediately thought of this superior person with
superior powers that helped protect and defend the world. As I grown I realized
a hero is not always fictional. A hero can be a teacher, a police officer or
even a celebrity depending on what you are into. As I talk about celebrities
and The Cult of the Celebrity, I think about how it relates to my topic “How
does social media affect relationships”.
The Cult of the Celebrity applies to
my topic just because simply celebrities tend to share their personal life on
social networks and it also many people to want to be just like some of the
celebrities. As humans, we sometimes tend to get caught up in the gossip and
excitement of celebrities. There are always stories of their latest outfits,
hairstyles and especially love life. On social networks, some of the pictures
of comments that celebrities share with their significant other are not
realistic. The images they portray can be deceiving but as viewers, it is
possible for us to make our own opinions about what he see and incorporate it
in our personal lives. What I am saying is that one in a relationship may try
to imitate what they have seen or heard a celebrity do on social sites, weather
it is positive or negative; it still will affect the relationship.
The theory
about The Cult of the Celebrity helps evaluate my topic because I know the
music we listen to and the celebrities we our fans of can have an impact our
lives. I think re-evaluating the people that we idolize can help not only in
our lives but in our relationships. Being in the know of a celebrity’s personal
life can be distracting and convincing.
From applying
the theory to my topic, the insight that I have gained is that being able to
make judgment of what is beneficial and not can help when being involved in
social media.
